An exhibition marking 100 years since Agatha Barbara’s birth (11 March 1923), is currently open for viewing with various memorabilia and documents pertaining to her life. Barbara who served as Malta’s third President between 1982 and 1987, made history for being the first woman to be appointed in this role.
This exhibition coincides with International Women’s Day (8 March) with the culmination being a special event held on Friday 10 March 2023 at 12:30, whereby various speakers, members from Ms Barbara’s family and guests joined the Rector, Prof. Alfred J. Vella, at the University of Malta Library (Msida Campus) to commemorate the memory of Agatha Barbara.
Those interested in visiting the exhibition can do so from Monday 6 March till Thursday 30 March during the Library’s Opening Hours.
In light of this the University’s Gender Equality & Sexual Diversity Committee is also organising a Meet-To-Learn workshop at the Junior College on Tuesday 28 March 2023 between 09:00 and 12:00, to discuss Gender Equality Plans (GEP) being implemented in Malta based higher education and research organisations, with Hon. Ms Rebecca Buttigieg addressing the same workshop.
