The ACCLAIMED project has been launched and is in its first period of execution. It stands as a pioneering project in educational innovation, merging AI with human expertise to democratise learning globally. Acclaimed represents a significant advance in online education, aiming to overcome language and geographical barriers using generative AI. This initiative, under the direction of Prof. Matthew Montebello from the AI department at the Faculty of ICT, leverages AI to create and distribute high-quality educational content in various languages, enhancing global inclusivity and accessibility in education.
The first of three components is the Course Generator, that relies on educators and subject matter experts to provide foundational knowledge and pedagogical input for an AI authoring tool. This tool produces not only core course content but also supplementary materials like curriculums, assessment instruments, and educational activities. The second component, the Guardrail, is a smart safety mechanism that collaborates with human experts to offer guidelines and boundaries to the AI-generated materials, providing a highly refined review of the educational content. This step ensures ethical integrity, societal expectations alignment, accuracy, and fluency; effectively combining AI capabilities with human nuances to mitigate the associated risks.
Finally, the third component, the AI-Renderer, utilises an AI audio-visual cloning tool to transform the generated content into a realistic, human delivered format, complete with slides and additional resources, ready for online deployment. A key feature of ACCLAIMED is its multilingual capability, offering educational resources in numerous languages and thereby making high-quality education accessible globally. This empowers learners to access material in their native language, removing traditional educational barriers related to language and location-promising
During the first period of execution progress has been registered in the development of its cutting-edge educational technology platform. Following several months of focused research and system integration, the team has successfully delivered an alpha version of the system, demonstrating both its technical feasibility and potential to transform digital education through generative AI. Developed as a modular platform, ACCLAIMED is designed to support educators in creating rich, structured course content with the aid of artificial intelligence. The system enables educators to co-author lesson plans, assessments, and curricula with generative models, while the built-in “Guardrail” mechanism ensures the content remains pedagogically sound, ethically aligned, and culturally sensitive. In addition to content generation, ACCLAIMED renders this material into high-quality, human-like video presentations using advanced audio-visual synthesis, and supports multilingual translation to maximise accessibility for global learners.
The project was initiated in response to a growing need among educators and institutions to deliver digital content that is both scalable and inclusive. While many tools offer content automation, ACCLAIMED uniquely integrates instructional design, ethical oversight, and visual rendering into a single workflow.
The platform is intended for use by universities, online education providers, and training centres, and is already being explored for novel applications such as university introduction videos that orient new students on key academic themes including plagiarism, responsible use of generative AI, and faculty engagement. In terms of development trajectory, the team is preparing to shift from generating individual lessons to producing complete academic courses, a move that will require the integration of a more robust UI/UX framework to facilitate intuitive interaction for educators. These upcoming steps will enhance both the scope and usability of the system. With its innovative blend of AI content generation, ethical control, and immersive media production, ACCLAIMED is positioning itself at the forefront of the next wave of educational technology. The team remains committed to its mission of democratising access to quality education through intelligent, localised, and scalable solutions.
