A series of research posters, prepared by Economics Honours students, is currently on display at the Faculty of Economics, Management & Accountancy (FEMA). The posters outline research proposals on a range of applied economic questions including: What are the economic benefits of school public transport? Does political affiliation influence willingness to protect environmental landscape? Does environment quality influence property prices in Malta?
More macro-economic questions include: What happens if Maltese banks have too much market power? What are the Socio-economic effects of Greek EU bailout conditions? What drives economic growth in Malta? How can we really measure this? How elastic is Maltese tax revenue? What determines life satisfaction?
A good number of research questions focus on labour market policies, including: How cost-efficient are FEMA graduates? How do labour market expectations differ from actual outcomes in Malta? Do active labour market policies really help unemployment in Malta? Why do some Maltese people work beyond the statutory retirement age? What is the Impact of foreign workers on output in Malta? How did free childcare effect maternal work/life balance?
The posters were prepared under the tutorship of Dr Marie Briguglio. Students will now proceed to complete their dissertations in these fields assisted by supervisors designated by the Department of Economics.
