Mr Kevin Apap is the recipient of the bursary for the M.A. in Mediterranean Studies given by Mr Derek Vella, on behalf of The Alfred Mizzi Foundation. Mr Vella presented a cheque of €1,000 to the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Prof. Dominic Fenech, who thanked The Alfred Mizzi Foundation for their support and augured that other entities might follow this example in supporting initiatives by the University of Malta. Mr Vella expressed his and the Foundation’s satisfaction at being associated with an important endeavour such as the Faculty of Arts M.A. in Mediterranean Studies. The presentation was held in the Faculty of Arts Library.
Kevin Apap is 38 years old. His first degree was in business and computing. After a work experience managing the Euro-Med Youth Platform www.euromedp.org, he decided to further his studies by enrolling for the taught M.A. in Mediterranean Studies of the Faculty of Arts. He wished to further the experience gained from working with the Euro-Med youth platform – where NGOs from across Europe and the Mediterranean were brought together in an environment of tolerance and mutual understanding – by furthering his academic studies in the varied field constituted by Mediterranean Studies. In his own words: “The interaction between people of different background has always fascinated me and I believe that since this M.A. in Mediterranean Studies tackles this region from many aspects, such as Anthropological Sciences, Classics and Archaeology, Geography, History, International Relations, Oriental Studies, Philosophy and Sociology, my understanding of the Mediterranean can only increase. In my essay I described what the Mediterranean region means for me through an imaginary journey around different Mediterranean countries, interviewing locals and asking them what the Mediterranean means for them. I can only say that I am very happy with my decision to come back to University after 15 years. As I progress further I believe the love for the study of this region will only increase.”
