At a recent meeting of the University Network of the European Capitals of Culture (UNeECC), held at Pilsen in the Czech Republic, Prof. Carmel Cassar, from the Institute of Tourism, Travel and Culture, Mr Glen Farrugia and Ms Giusy Cardia were invited to join the UNeECC organising team.
UNeECC is a network of 45 European universities from cities that have either held the title of European Capital of Culture [ECOC] in the past, or have been selected to be an ECOC in the near future.
The University of Malta has been involved in UNeECC before Valletta was nominated European Capital of Culture in October 2012. Professor Cassar was appointed UNeECC board member while Mr Farrugia and Ms Cardia were selected as UNeECC scientific committee members.
Ms Cardia and Mr Farrugia were in Pilsen to deliver a paper on the potential of Valletta as Capital of Culture from the touristic and cultural perspective at the ninth interdisciplinary UNeECC conference.
