The Għaqda Studenti tat-Teoloġija (Għ.S.T.) would like to greatly thank all those involved in the “Make My House A Home” Orange Campaign which ran from Wednesday 2 to Thursday 3 December. The total sum collected until the end of the event is €4,375.
The proceedings will go towards “Uffiċċju Ejjew Għandi”, and will be used to help families with children who are on the brink of poverty.
Għ.S.T. would like to thank all the organisations, companies and individuals who donated oranges, cakes, pizza, equipment, and all sort of help in kind. Għ.S.T. would also like to thank all those people who donated their money to this just cause.
On 3 December, H.E. Marie Louise Coleiro Preca visited the campaign and stated that as President of Malta it is her duty to encourage similar initiatives that are aimed to help people in need. She said that she sees many people who, due a myriad of circumstances, end up not able to support their family. “At times it might even be a health issue that does not allow the breadwinner to continue working,” the President said. She emphasised that we should not be passive and think that all is fine. She said that “poverty still exists in Malta… It saddens me deeply… I wish it wasn’t there.” She emphasised that we should all work hard to help reduce poverty as much as possible, trying to eradicate it altogether. “We need to encourage initiatives like these… We need to do more!”
President Marie Louise Coleiro Preca appealed to everyone so that this Christmas season we try to share the joy, love and solidarity with others, by helping them as much as we can, at least from the extra that we have. She also thanked the religious and lay people who do a sterling job in helping children from a challenging background.
H.E. Marie Louise Coleiro Preca spent about half an hour squeezing oranges on the stand. During a live interview on RTK Radio, while continuing to squeeze oranges, she expressed that “I’m enjoying myself… I wish I could stay here squeezing oranges all day!”
The event would not have been possible were it not for the continued support from the Faculty of Theology, the University of Malta and the Kunsill Studenti Universitarji (KSU), together with a number of dedicated volunteers. Għ.S.T. also want to thank the Malta Medical Students’ Association (MMSA) for providing the tent, and Moviment Kattoliku Studenti Universitarji (MKSU) for their hands-on support throughout the two days. A big thanks goes to all the other organisations who also gave a helping hand! Last but not least, the Għ.S.T. would like to thank all the dignitaries who showed their support for this event!
Finally, Għ.S.T. would like to thank RTK for the collaboration on this event. RTK has been a formidable partner again.
Thank you to all for making this event another success by helping give a second chance to children on the brink of poverty in Malta!
