The University of Malta is now receiving applications for Units on offer during the second semester (starting in February 2016) as part of its Programme in the Liberal Arts and Sciences (PLAS). PLAS is a cross-disciplinary programme which enables students of all ages to study at their own pace by applying for any and as many Units as they wish. Now in its second year, PLAS has attracted over 200 application for every semester.
Fifteen PLAS Units will be offered between February and May 2016, covering a variety of fields including the chemistry of pyrotechnics, digital citizenship, disability studies, online teaching and learning, kitchen chemistry, medical devices, modern and contemporary Italian literature, bodily representation in Maltese literature, and consumer rights.
Building on the positive reception to the introduction of the PLAS Tech Units during the last academic year, a cluster of ICT-related hands-on Units within PLAS will once again be offered. The rationale of these Units is to respond to the need for ICT professionals to enrich their academic education with focused expertise on a selection of current and emerging software technologies and tools.
Each Unit is accredited individually and the Programme’s flexibility allows participants to use accumulated ECTS credits to achieve a Certificate, a Diploma, a Higher Diploma and a Bachelor’s degree, without any limits of time. Lectures are held between 1800hrs and 2000hrs at the Main Campus (Msida) or the Valletta Campus. Some Units will also be available through videoconferencing at the University’s Gozo Campus.
PLAS offers an excellent opportunity for personal growth and professional development: to broaden one’s knowledge for its own sake, to improve one’s qualifications, to enhance one’s flexibility in the job market, and to start or continue studying at university.
The Centre for the Liberal Arts and Sciences is now also offering a voucher option which can be used by relatives, friends or colleagues when applying for PLAS Units. The deadline for online applications is Wednesday 13 January 2016. More information is available on www.um.edu.mt/clas.
