The Malta Educational Research Association (MERA) is a voluntary, professional and scientific association engaged in educational research. Following an official invitation from the European Educational Research Association (EERA), the Malta Educational Research Association (MERA) was established in 2014 by the Faculty of Education at the University of Malta. During first Annual General Meeting held in May 2016 the Malta Educational Research Association (MERA) was transformed into an independent national organization.
The main aims of the Association are: to promote and organize educational research and support educators to contribute to the overall social development through research in the domain of education; to encourage the study of relevant theoretical and practical problems in education; to support the professional and scientific activities of its members; to contribute to the research capacity building; to contribute to the highest ethics standards and quality of educational research; to liaise researcher members with both education policy makers as well as international organisations. To achieve the adopted goals, the Malta Educational Research Association will conduct and initiate its own research activities, organize scientific and professional meetings, support the work of its members organized in research networks, facilitate the exchange of research-related information and organize other forms of collaborative research.
The members of the Administrative Board were elected by the General Council during the first Annual General Meeting held in May 2016. The Administrative Board Members are: Dr Milosh Raykov (Chairperson), Mr Kevin Bonello (Deputy Chairperson), Prof. Sandro Caruana (International Secretary), Ms Rose Marie Callus (Board Secretary), Ms Esmeralda Zerafa (Treasurer), Dr Denise Mifsud (Public Relations Officer), Ms Jacqueline Vanhear, Dr Nadia Marie Vassallo and Ms Maria Stephanie Bugeja. The first Board Meeting was held on Monday 1st August, during which several issues pertinent to the establishment, visibility and dissemination of MERA were decided upon.
Membership is open to individuals engaged or interested in educational research, assessment or evaluation of educational practice as well as all stakeholders involved in the local education scenario both in a direct and indirect manner.
