Daniel Joseph Grixti, a final year student following the Master of Pharmacy course, was awarded the Combino Pharm Award for best Master of Pharmacy Presentation at the 40th Annual Pharmacy Symposium. This research event, held at the University of Malta Valletta Campus, is organised by the Department of Pharmacy within the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Malta.
Mr Grixti’s study, titled 'Development of Rheumatology Shared Care Guidelines: Improving Transitional Care', tackled the development of a Maltese Rheumatology Shared Care Guideline for medicines used in rheumatology, including infliximab, methotrexate, azathioprine and hydroxychloroquine. The study concluded that the guidelines enhance communication between healthcare professionals working in hospital and community pharmacies. This improves health services extended to patients whilst ensuring safety and proper use of medicines.
Students in the Department of Pharmacy carry out fieldwork and contribute to results which improve safe use of medicines. Students were commended for their project work which is contributing to the development of new pharmaceutical services with a patient focus.
