The University of Malta and STMicroelectronics Malta Plant have entered into a two-year Collaboration Agreement to conduct joint work on projects with the aim of maximising manufacturing efficiency based on scientific knowledge.
The University shall provide knowledge and expertise to STMicroelectronics and utilise tools and instrumentation for the benefit and success of the projects through its team of highly qualified professionals; STMicroelectronics shall provide and share manufacturing data on yields, efficiency and processes and utilise its manufacturing environment for scientific understanding. This common collaboration interest may include scientific information in the fields of chemistry, physics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and information technology.
One of the fundamental goals is to develop and apply a global project of Big Data analytics on back-end manufacturing to improve yield, cost and quality and to set up a Big Data analytics team. Big Data is a priority project of ST’s back-end manufacturing and technology that is being done in collaboration with the Department of Artificial Intelligence within the Faculty of ICT. This project should lead the way towards the creation of a related Excellence Centre and serving all ST’s back-end plants.
This Framework Agreement was signed by the Rector of the University of Malta Professor Alfred Vella and on behalf of STMicroelectronics by Fabio Gualandris, Executive Vice President Back-End Manufacturing and Technology and Chairman of the ST Malta Plant.
