As part of annual worldwide celebrations of the French language, and as a Faculty of Education initiative involving schools, on the 8th May, the French Subject Area within the Department of Languages and Humanities in the Faculty of Education (DLHE) held a prize-giving ceremony at University in connection with a poster competition on the theme of numbers, organized for Primary Grade 6 learners of French following a FLAP (Foreign Language Awareness Programme) course or its equivalent.
Learners were encouraged to explore the significance of numbers in French culture and idiomatic expressions. B.Ed. students of the French Subject Area within the DLHE chose the winning posters. Certificates and books offered by the Cultural Service within the Embassy of France in Malta were awarded to the nine best entries. Primary school learners and their parents and teachers present for the ceremony were addressed by several speakers who stressed the importance of learning foreign languages. Learners present for the prize-giving ceremony also participated in engaging language activities on the theme of numbers in French, prepared by students reading for a Master in Teaching and Learning (MTL) at the Faculty of Education.
