Professor Carmel Cefai, Director of the Centre for Resilience and Socio-Emotional, was recently invited to address the first National Conference on Learning Outcomes in Uganda. The conference, held on 12 -13 April at Kyambogo University, Kampala, was organised by Kyambogo University, Makerere University and Twaweza East Africa, in collaboration with the Minister of Primary Education, who was also present at the Conference.
Prof. Cefai spoke about the role of social and emotional learning and resilience as core aspects of education and this was included as one of the main recommendations in the final conference communiqué presented to the Minister of Education.
Prof. Cefai also conducted a one-day pre-conference training workshop on RESCUR Surfing the Waves Resilience Curriculum, with 50 participants at Kyambgo University, including school and agency leaders, academics, psychologists and teachers, amongst others.
On 27-28 March, Prof. Cefai led another RESCUR programme training workshop with 30 psychologists, researchers and academics at Masaryk University, Czech Republic. A researcher will be translating, implementing and evaluating the programme as part of her Ph.D. studies at Masaryk University.
