The Department of Nursing within the Faculty of Health Sciences is currently accepting applications for its new Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Nursing (Elderly Care) top-up programme being launched in October 2017.
The B.Sc. in Nursing (Elderly Care) is a 4 or 6 semester part-time evening blended learning (taught and online) course for qualified nurses who wish to pursue their studies with a focus on elderly care. With an ageing population, qualified nurses in health and social care settings are required to be adequately prepared to provide high quality care for older adults. This course provides specific competencies and skills in the care of older adults as well as more general competencies, that will contribute towards their academic and professional development. The programme spans across preventive, medical, rehabilitative and palliative aspects of care across a range of settings, including community, hospital and long-term settings. Relevant topics such as dementia, nutrition and pharmacology are addressed.
The programme leads to a Bachelor degree qualification (MQF Level 6). Graduates can enhance their professional and academic qualification and also opens the possibility of pursing further studies at a Master level.
Full details about the B.Sc. in Nursing (Elderly Care), including the programme of study and the course bye-laws, are now available online.
