The M.A. in Mediterranean Studies is a transdisciplinary, research-led programme of studies in this rapidly growing field of study offered by the Institute of Mediterranean Studies. The programme is based on research in specific, carefully chosen areas of study pertaining to the contemporary and historic Mediterranean region, its geo-political zones of activity, its social, cultural and economic diversity and its ongoing political challenges and humanitarian concerns. Research projects of a comparative and cross-disciplinary character are encouraged.
In the course of their activity, our students undertake research and field inquiry based on a sound training in critical approaches to past and present issues shaping and affecting the Mediterranean region, and its place in the world. The programme creates an ideal environment for students to interact, debate and contribute to the enhancement of knowledge in key areas of trans-regional Mediterranean Studies.
The research programme values a hands-on approach to the analysis of the stakes involved in each specific subject-matter. The students benefit from the Institute’s signature Research Strategy, together with the Institute’s regular stream of scholarly activity that includes academic conferences, seminars, workshops, roundtables and other events of a public-outreach nature.
