The Office for Human Resources Management & Development, in collaboration with the Office of the Registrar, organised a training and development award ceremony. This event was held on Friday, 20 April at 12:00 noon at the Faculty of Information & Communication Technology Auditorium and attracted 200 participants.
This event was organised for members of staff who have attended sessions or courses pertaining to the Training and Development Programme in 2016 and 2017. Trainers who have delivered sessions or courses and members of staff who have contributed to this programme were also invited to attend the event.
The event started off with an introductory speech by the Director for Human Resources Management & Development, Ms Jacqueline Fenech, who gave a brief overview of the main goals of this event. She delivered a detailed presentation regarding the development of a training culture at UM and outlined the main areas of training that are currently being offered.
The Pro-Rector for Student & Staff Affairs and Outreach, Dr Carmen Sammut, stressed the efforts that the University is embarking on with regard to mental health, counselling services and the Health and Wellness Centre.
The Rector, Professor Alfred J. Vella, highlighted the importance of training for all UM members of staff and drew attention to the impressive increase in the number of attendees, from 77 in 2014 to 446 in 2017.
Members of staff who had attended training and development programme in 2016 and 2017 were presented with a certificate while trainers and members of staff who contributed to this programme were given a token of appreciation by the Rector.
Following the ceremony refreshments were served, giving members of staff the opportunity to socialise in an informal environment and create a sense of community.
