This year’s winner of the competition for FameLab Malta is Dr Anthony Galea, an academic at the Department of Geosciences and is part of the Physical Oceanography Research Group at the Faculty of Science, UM.
FameLab is a global science communications competition whereby science enthusiasts share their knowledge and engage the public in effective ways through a 3 minutes talk. This year, the locally organised FameLab Malta competition hosted 7 finalists on Friday 13th April at Esplora Science Centre. A professional panel of adjudicators judged the finalists based on their talk’s content, clarity and charisma.
Anthony was also awarded the Public's Choice Award for his talk 'Flying Doughnuts', a talk in which he demonstrated the science behind wingtip vortices.
Anthony will represent Malta in the 2018 FameLab International competition at the Cheltenham Science Festival, UK, in June and will compete for the title of FameLab’s best science communicator with more than 25 other global countries. The local FameLab Malta competition was organised by Esplora in collaboration with British Council Malta and Arts Council Malta.
