Pro-Rector Prof. Joseph M. Cacciottolo, accompanied by Prof. David Mifsud (Director, CLAS) attended a ceremony at Saint Vincent De Paul (SVP), during which Certificates of Achievement were distributed to 58 students. The students - all SVP employees - successfully followed LAS1102 Dementia Care Practice, a training course accredited by UM through the Centre for the Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS).
Parliamentary Secretary for Persons with Disability and Active Ageing Hon. Anthony Agius Decelis remarked that the successful completion of this training course is living proof of how the National Strategy for Dementia in the Maltese Islands includes an active commitment towards the well-being of persons with dementia.
Prof. Cacciottolo expressed his satisfaction for the collaboration between UM and SVP. He said that, through this collaboration, the University was fulfilling part of its mission to reach out to non-traditional paths to University education. Moreover, he remarked that the University is proud that, through CLAS, it is offering a flexible approach to learning that provides training in the dementia sector, which is an urgent matter in Malta.
