The Department of Geosciences recently organised a public seminar entitled Geoscience - Bridging the worlds of Academia, Society and Governance. The seminar took place on Friday 8 February at the Salini Resort.
Members of the Department presented a varied selection of ongoing research, projects and operational and monitoring activities, ranging from earthquake monitoring and geophysical applications, physical oceanography and marine data applications, marine geohazards and resources, to atmospheric monitoring of volcanic and ship emissions, air pollutants and personal exposure.
The seminar was very well attended, mainly by representatives of the major national stakeholders. The Minister for Education and Employment, Mr Evarist Bartolo, the Minister for the Environment, Sustainable Development and Climate Change, Dr José Herrera, and the Rector of the University, Prof. Alfred Vella, addressed the audience.
The event was intended to familiarise stakeholders with the wide range of applied research being carried out by the department, and to stimulate discussion and strengthen the relationship between academia and the rest of society
