The Islands and Small States Institute, in cooperation with the Institute for European Studies and the Department of Economics, has hosted Dr Riad Sultan from the University of Mauritius for a series of lectures and seminars as part of the Erasmus + academic exchange between the two universities.
Riad M. Sultan is a Senior Lecturer in Environmental and Resource Economics at the University of Mauritius. He is currently researching on sustainable fisheries and marine spatial planning. He has conducted research on areas such as green economy modelling, green jobs, skill and learning needs for a green economy, economics of energy and bio-ethanol, and ecosystem valuation. He worked in close collaboration with the University of Pretoria and University of Cape Town in South Africa, on environmental and natural resource economics, as well as several United Nations organisations (ILO, UNEP, UNITAR, IOM) on green economy.
Dr Stefano Moncada, who coordinated the academic exchange, is expected to reciprocate the visit to the University of Mauritius in June 2019, delivering lectures on the EU development and climate change policy, and discussing his recent research that focuses on the links between poverty and climate change among coastal communities in the Mauritius.
