A M.Sc. by Research position is available within the Department of Communications and Computer Engineering in the Faculty of ICT, in collaboration with CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research. The duration of the position is 12 months, and carries a funding of CHF1500/month (approximately EUR 1375/month).
The student will be working with the Radiation Protection group at CERN to develop a wireless sensor network for remote monitoring of radiation using novel sensors up to a 100 times more accurate than standard dosimeters. The design of the data acquisition, transmission and management of the Wide Area Network infrastructure will be based on the concept of Internet of Things (IoT), while ensuring a battery life of the sensors of at least 1 year. The ideal student should have knowledge or have worked with embedded systems and computer networks, and be proficient in C/C++.
