Use of paper at UM
Every year, staff at the University of Malta use up to seven million sheets of paper, students use some two million sheets of paper in assignments and dissertations, some three million sheets of paper during examinations, and still more paper is used in printed matter.
A conservative total of 15 million sheets of A4 paper per year used by UM is equivalent to 1,800 trees, several tonnes of CO2 emissions
and millions of litres of water used in the production of paper - generating waste.
This year, make it part of your new year's resolution to avoid unnecessary use of paper.
1. Print rarely
2. Print double-sided
3. Keep waste paper separate for re-use, recycling and printing on unused sides.
