Wired Internet connections in lecture rooms
Academics are encouraged to make use of wired Internet connection in lecture rooms (where possible) rather than Wi-Fi. Wired connections are not impacted by the number of wireless devices in the learning space and support higher speeds, which results in an overall better experience.
Connecting to University Wi-Fi at UM / JC
The underlying information does not apply to administrative staff who are using corporate/managed computers configured by IT Services.
Further to the online information on the UM & JC Wi-Fi service, we are reminding
(a) new students/staff and
(b) returning students/staff who will be using new devices during this academic year
to download and configure the eduroam Configuration Assistant Tool (CAT) on their device/s (laptops, smartphone etc) before coming to UM or JC.
Following the above guidance ensures that your device/s will automatically connect to the eduroam network when you are at UM and JC.
An Internet connection (e.g. home Internet or mobile data on the smartphone) will be required to download and configure the eduroam CAT tool before coming to UM or JC.
Step-by-step instructions to set up Android, iOS (iPads and iPhones), Windows and macOS devices are available.
Students and staff returning from holidays or prolonged periods away from UM / JC may find that their device is unable to connect to eduroam. Such users are encouraged to follow the instructions available in the section eduroam connection problems.
