UM Academic participates in review of prestigious EU OBELISK project

Prof. Nikolai P. Pace of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery was invited by the European Health and Digital Agency (HaDEA), Health Research Unit, to serve as an expert evaluator for project monitoring of the prestigious Horizon Europe project Fighting childhood obesity to stay healthy all over the life – OBELISK.

The EU-funded OBELISK project aims to shed light on the causes of obesity and provide precision medicine for children with obesity. It will introduce innovations in understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying the interaction of causative factors that either enable or prevent the transition to obesity during childhood. It will also develop early predictive tools.

OBELISK will collaborate with families, scientific and medical communities, schools, municipalities, and industries.

INSERM coordinates the project and includes 16 partners from major universities, research institutions and small and medium-sized enterprises from across nine European countries.

Prof. Pace is the scientific lead for the national biobanking project DwarnaBio, and the principal investigator for several genomics research projects on hidradenitis suppurativa, inflammatory bowel disease and obesity.
