On 21 May 2026, Prof. Josephine Deguara from the Department of Early Childhood and Primary Education within the Faculty of Education presented a paper at the International ECERS Meeting, held at OsloMet University, Norway, from 19–22 May 2026.
Her paper, entitled “Seeing Quality Through Children’s Eyes: Using Children’s Drawings to Support the ECERS-3 Framework,” explored how children’s drawings can serve as a valuable participatory tool for understanding children’s perspectives on quality within early childhood education settings. Building on the principles underpinning the Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale (ECERS-3), the presentation proposed a complementary methodological approach that enables children to communicate their experiences and understandings of educational quality through visual and multimodal forms of expression.
The paper contributed to ongoing international discussions on child participation and highlighted the importance of incorporating children’s voices into the evaluation and development of early childhood education environments.
During her visit to OsloMet University, Prof. Deguara also participated in a series of networking meetings with academic colleagues. These discussions focused on strengthening existing collaborations between the University of Malta and OsloMet University, particularly in relation to student mobility opportunities and future joint initiatives in early childhood education.
