Dr Costantino Oliva visits the Centre for Game Studies at Ritsumeikan University

Dr Costantino Oliva recently completed a successful academic visit to Ritsumeikan University in Japan, engaging in a series of high-level educational and collaborative activities.

His visit was highlighted by a diverse agenda, including delivering lectures, leading open workshops, and conducting PhD supervisions.

These sessions are part of the ongoing collaboration between the Institute of Digital Games at the UM and the Ritsumeikan Center for Game Studies (RCGS), two world-leading centres of academic excellence related to digital games.

In addition to his university-based academic engagements, Dr Oliva participated in BitSummit, Japan's premier indie game festival.

This major event featured active participation from the RCGS and showcased an energetic student game jam. Engaging with BitSummit allowed for a unique intersection of academic theory and industry practice, offering deep insights into the vibrant ecosystem of independent game development in Japan.

The mobility experience proved to be a remarkable opportunity for Dr Oliva to collaborate with international colleagues, broaden research horizons, and contribute meaningfully to the global Game Studies community.

The successful visit is the latest in a series of collaborations between the two institutions, which created a solid bridge connecting the study of digital games across Europe and Asia.
