STSMs will be evaluated on an on-going basis, up until 31st January, 2018.
Purpose of STSM:
STSM facilitates researchers from COST Countries participating in CA17115 to go to an institution, organisation or research centre in another participating COST Country to foster collaboration. Participation of “Early Career Investigators” (ECI) in STSM is particularly encouraged. The ECI is an individual who is within a time span of up to 8 years from the date they obtained their PhD/doctorate (full-time equivalent). PhD students are also eligible to participate in STSMs.
Specific information concerning STSM
The duration of a STSM should be between 5 days and 90 days (and up to 180 days if the applicant is an ECI – see definition of ECI above).
The financial support is a contribution to the overall expenses incurred during the STSM and may not necessarily cover all the costs.
The following funding conditions apply and must be respected:
- Up to a maximum of EUR 1 650 in total can be afforded to each successful STSM applicant
- Up to a maximum of EUR 160 per day can be afforded for accommodation and meal expenses
- STSM activities must occur in their entirety within the dates specified in this call
Financial support is limited to cover travel, accommodation and meal expenses and is paid in the form of a Grant.
STSM submission and approval procedure
Call for STSMs will take in three applications:
1. Those interested in hosting a STSM but without a candidate.
2. Those interested in participating in a STSM, but without a host institution.
3. Those interested in participating in a STSM who already agreed with a host institution.
Applicants in categories 1 and 2 should send a short abstract to the STSM manager and Action Chair with the subject as “STSM Application Cat 1/2 : Name of applicant”
The STSM proposals as in category 3 must be submitted online through this link https://e-services.cost.eu/stsm.
The applications page contains the following sections:
1. STSM details (the starting and ending dates within the indicated grant period; motivation and work plan summary as relevant to the Action’s objectives)
2. Bank details
3. Host details
4. Financial support
5. Supporting documents:
- Written agreement of the host institution (1 page)
- Letter of support from the home institution (1 page)
- A Short CV of the applicant with list of the main publications (2-3 pages)
The applications will be evaluated based on:
- Scientific content and its relevance to MyWAVE objectives
- Soundnessof the application (feasibility within timeframe proposed and justification of the finance requested
- Qualifications of the applicant (research being undertaken, research already undertaken, publications and participation in international research cooperation)
- Benefit of the STSM (added-value for the applicant, host, and home institutions)
- Promotion of participation from Inclusiveness Target Countries (ITC) and ECI, as well as gender balance.
After the completion of the STSM, the grantee is required to submit a short scientific report in e-COST following the template provided by the COST.
The template includes:
- Purpose of the STSM
- Description of the work carried out during the STSM
- Description of the main results obtained
- Future collaborations (if applicable)
All publications resulting from the STSM should contain an acknowledgment to the Action: “This work has been developed in the framework of and supported by COST ActionCA17115 – MyWAVE”.
