Overview

Project title: Extending storage life of local agricultural products using post-harvest technologies

This project will be a proof of concept that post-harvest technologies can be applied in local scenarios in the context of short supply chains.

The project seeks at assessing the feasibility of the adoption of these practices by individual farmers and how the adoption of these technologies will lead to a decrease in product waste and an increase in the price of the product.

This concept will be tried on bambinella. This product has already been researched and the fungal contaminants responsible for post-harvest spoilage have already been identified.

This project will continue building on this and will see to identify the following:

  • develop a standard for post-harvest treatment of bambinella
  • assess the feasibility of the adoption of these treatments on a local context by
    - Pilot project
    - Economic viability.
