Abstract: The first documented record of the Guinea angelfish, Holacanthus africanus, for the Mediterranean is hereby reported, through the capture of two individuals within Maltese coastal waters. The fish were submitted as a contribution to the Spot the Alien Fish citizen science campaign. Considerations are made on the possible introduction pathway used by the species to reach these waters, including the aquarium trade or association with a towed oil platform.
