Abstract: This position paper aims at introducing current research in the field on dementia wandering detection with the use of smart technology. Apart from illustrating current progress, future work in this research is also presented which aims to help formal and informal dementia caregivers in managing their patients’ wandering patterns and thus contributing to a decline in their burden. This hypothesis is to be tested in the case of caregivers for persons with dementia between the mild and moderate stages of the condition. A tool will be established to help caregivers learn more about their patients’ patterns before any further cognitive decline is caused by the condition.
