Abstract: Teatru Astra presents the programme for the series of musical sketches "Carousel", produced and musically directed by Mro. Giuseppe Giardini Vella with co-producer Anton Mizzi. The event featured performances of scenes from Verdi's opera "La Forza Del Destino" and Puccini's Opera "Madama Butterfly", as well as a sketch adaptation of Offenbach's "Tales of Hoffmann" entitled "Students on Strike" (adapted by Giuseppe Giardini Vella), and a parody of "Fiddler on The Roof" (translated by G. Cassar). The performances featured the Astra Stage Dancers (choreographed by George Mejlaq) and the Astra Choir (directed by Alfred Arnold and co-directed by Julian Refalo Rapa). The performance was held on the 27th and the 29th of April, 1972, at Teatru Astra, in Victoria, Gozo.
Description: Programme includes list of featured sketches including their cast members and performers, list of women and men in the Astra Stage Dancers, list of orchestra members, list of crew, photos of musical director/producer Mro. Gius. Giardini Vella, co-producer Anton Mizzi, choir director Alfred Arnold, assistant choir director Julian Refalo Rapa and choreographer George Mejlaq, note with photo on featured singer Mary Galea, note welcoming Mro. Gius. Giardini Vella as a member of Teatru Astra, and note on the Carnival Dances occurring at Teatru Astra.
