| Abstract: | Background and aims: The relationship of the Mediterranean Diet with
CVD is known but there are no reports for a possible relationship with Gestational
Diabetes Mellitus (GDM). We aimed to explore the relationship of
dietary habits and the Mediterranean Diet with the incidence of GDM in the
Mediterranean region. Materials and methods: Pregnant women (n=1083) from 10 Mediterranean countries underwent a 75 g OGTT at 24 - 32nd week of gestation which was interpreted by the American Diabetes Association (ADA) 2010 and the IADPSG 2012 criteria. Dietary habits were assessed by a 78-question dietary questionnaire, previously validated against the 3-Day Diet Diary and a Mediterranean Diet Score (SCORE) was computed, reflecting the degree of adherence to the Mediterranean Diet : a higher SCORE denoting better adherence. |
