Abstract: This master’s thesis explores the practice of foraging within the Maltese Islands, comparing historical practices with contemporary approaches to understand how oral and traditional foraging practices shape the local population. The research investigates the passion for foraging among locals, the influence of modern technology on cross-cultural understanding, and the preservation of cultural heritage. It addresses the gap in knowledge regarding foraged food, aiming to document existing practices, recall past knowledge, and understand how this knowledge has evolved. The research also evaluates the sustainability of current foraging practices and considers the need for educational programmes to preserve cultural heritage. [excerpt]
