Abstract: As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the use of telepractice as an alternative speech-language service delivery increased significantly. Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) needed to adopt new approaches to their clinical practices with little time to adapt. This research aims to explore SLPs’ perceptions on the use of telepractice, the contributing factors to telepractice effectiveness, and to compile clinical guidelines to enhance telepractice use. An online questionnaire was completed by 31 SLPs in Malta. Results showed that whilst demographic factors did not contribute to the effectiveness of telepractice, other factors did. SLPs’ and clients’ confidence with technology, caregivers’ involvement during virtual sessions, and the clients’ age and specific communication difficulties, all contributed to the effectiveness of telepractice. The majority of SLPs consider telepractice to be a viable and alternative mode of speech-language service delivery. Respondents highlighted the need for the dissemination of clinical guidelines in addition to the provision of training on the use of telepractice. SLPs also expressed the need for an improvement in the quality and availability of technology. Improving technological infrastructure, increasing technology access, modifying assessments and materials, providing training for users, and developing guidelines would help enhance telepractice as a form of service delivery.
