Abstract: The microbiological study of maize rhizosphere (๐˜ก๐˜ฆ๐˜ข ๐˜น ๐˜ฎ๐˜ข๐˜บ๐˜ด) cultivated in Brazil led to the isolation of a bacterium, which was identified as ๐˜™๐˜ฉ๐˜ช๐˜ป๐˜ฐ๐˜ฃ๐˜ช๐˜ถ๐˜ฎ sp. based upon 16 S rRNA analysis. The chemical study of fractions obtained from bacterium extract allowed the identification of the compound N-(3-oxo-tetradec-7-enoyl)- homoserine lactone using uni and bidimensional nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR), gas chromatography coupled to low resolution electron impact mass spectrometry (GCโ€“MS), and ultra-high re solution Qq-time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UHR-QqTOF-MS). Biological assays with the strains ๐˜ˆ๐˜จ๐˜ณ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฃ๐˜ข๐˜ค๐˜ต๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ๐˜ช๐˜ถ๐˜ฎ ๐˜ต๐˜ถ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฆ๐˜ง๐˜ข๐˜ด๐˜ค๐˜ช๐˜ฆ๐˜ฏ๐˜ด A136 and ๐˜Š๐˜ฉ๐˜ณ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฃ๐˜ข๐˜ค๐˜ต๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ๐˜ช๐˜ถ๐˜ฎ ๐˜ท๐˜ช๐˜ฐ๐˜ญ๐˜ข๐˜ค๐˜ฆ๐˜ถ๐˜ฎ CV026 were also performed and showed negative results, corroborating the hypothesis of production of only the long chain acyl homoserine lactone (AHL) 1, and the lack of presence of short or medium chain homologues, as observed by instrumental GCโ€“MS and NMR analyses. The chemotaxonomic relevance of the presence of long chain AHL in Rhizobiaceae was discussed.
