Abstract: Manoel Theatre, in association with the French Embassy and the Alliance Française de Malte, presents the programme for two musical events titled "Shakespeare à la Française", and "Shakespeare in Song", both held as part of the "Spotlight on Shakespeare" series of events. The event "Shakespeare à la Française" featured a talk on Shakespeare and French Opera by Albert Storace; a talk on Shakespeare and Berlioz by Joyce Guillaumier; and a performance of Berlioz's musical works by mezzo soprano Claire Massa with piano accompaniment from pianist Simone Attard. The event "Shakespeare in Song" featured the musical works of Charles Camilleri, Quilter, Gounod, Verdi, Handel, Finzi, Bellini, and Bernstein. The event "Shakespeare in Song" featured singers Gillian Zammit (soprano), Albert Buttigieg (bass), Joseph Aquilina (tenor), and pianists Lucia Micallef, Simone Attard, and Davinia Galea. The event "Shakespeare à la Française" was held on the 18th of January, 2005, while the event "Shakespeare in Song" was held on the 24th of January, 2005. Both events were held at Sala Isouard, in the Manoel Theatre, in Valletta.
