| Abstract: | Manoel Theatre presents the programme for the Camilleri Festival, which celebrates the life and music of one of Malta's greates composers Charles Camilleri. The festival was artistically directed by Maria Blanco, and featured performances from clarinettists Anthony Houghton and Godfrey Mifsud, violinist Carmine Lauri, mezzo-soprano singer Claire Massa, flautist Laura Falzon, cellist Lesley Shrigley Jones, and pianist Maria Blanco, alongside the Filarmonika Orchestra (conducted by Brian Schembri), the University Vocal Ensemble (directed by Dion Buhagiar), the Anon String Quartet, the Cassini String Quartet, the Jessop Wind Quintet, the Wilhelm String Quartet and the University String Ensemble. In this event, the Anon String Quartet was made up of violinists Marcelline Agius and Nadia Debono, violist Stephen Galea and cellist Angelica Young; the Cassini String Quartet was made up of violinists Amy Finch and David Ross, violist Jenny Hicken and cellist Lucy Revis; the Jessop Wind Quintet was made up of flautist Selina Slater, oboist Nancy Johnston, clarinettist Spyros Marinis, hornist Tom James, and bassoonist Emily Hoggett; and the Wilhelm String Quartet was made up of violinists Marciana Buta and Maggie Dziekonsky, violist Glen Donnelly and cellist Hetty Snell. The concert featured the musical works of Charles Camilleri. The event was held on the 14th of January, 2010, at both the Brake Hall in Ashford (Kent), and St. James Piccadilly in London. The event was also held on the 16th and the 17th of January, at the Manoel Theatre, in Valletta. |
