Abstract: Highlights • Former smokers exhibited a significantly higher metabolic risk compared with subjects with other smoking habits. • Current smokers with diabetes exhibited significantly higher fasting blood glucose and triglyceride levels. • Only former smoking was independently associated with increased dysglycemic risk after adjustment for potential confounders
