| Abstract: | Due to the economic significance of the iGaming industry in Malta, with an influx of Nordic expatriates moving to the island, there is a need to understand the factors aiding and hindering successful adjustment in order to decrease risk of employee turnover and turnover intention. This study is concerned with exploring the research question: What are the common factors that influence Nordic expatriate adjustment to Malta? Semi-structured interviews were chosen to collect participants’ narratives of their experiences adjusting to life and work in Malta, which were then analysed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). Findings suggest motivating factors, amicable interaction with host country nationals and organisations that employ such expatriates are the most significant elements that promote successful adjustment. These narratives highlight the important facets of dealing with change that, although they differ slightly due to personal, individual factors, may be observed in all participants’ experiences and perceptions in one way or another including, but not limited to, ideas of the self-concept, past experiences, and coping styles. |
