| Abstract: | This dissertation explores how Walt Disney Animation Studios use colour in their animated adaptations and how colour can be applied to a short film adaptation of local literature. The colour palette for a number of Disney characters is explored. The dissertation will also delve into production process of an animated short film, from initial storyboards to the final staged of post-production. Critical Readings on film adaptation, colour theories and mythological archetypes include works by: Linda Hutcheon, Joseph Campbell, Carl Gustav Jung, Johannes Itten, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Patti Bellatoni. Primary research used are the photography and photogrammetry of Maltese valleys in order to create an authentic feel for the digital locations created for the dissertation project. The short film is about two mouse characters, created by Trevor Zahra, who must find a way to return back to their home after a very long absence from Wied Pepprina. |
