Abstract: Centuries of Darkness is an intriguing book in which James and his collaborators challenge the conventional chronology of the Mediterranean and the countries in its hinterland, and to which Colin Renfrew has written a very interesting foreword. The book has a clear print (virtually free of misprints) and good figures and photographs. Its thirteen chapters and four appendices are very well documented.
