Members from the Department of Pharmacy within the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Malta actively participated in the European Society of Clinical Pharmacy (ESCP) annual conference, held from 26 to 28 November in Grenoble, France.

This year’s symposium focused on the theme ‘From Interprofessional Education to Interprofessional Practice.’

Prof. Francesca Wirth served as a member of the conference Scientific Committee, and Prof. Lilian M. Azzopardi delivered a plenary lecture entitled ‘Interprofessional Education and Practice: Towards Collaborative Transition of Care.’
Mariah Vella and Tresha Formosa, who successfully completed the Doctorate in Pharmacy (PharmD) programme this year, presented findings of their doctoral research. Mariah Vella conducted a study on pharmacist-led point-of-care testing for hypothyroidism in the community pharmacy setting, under the supervision of Prof. Azzopardi and Prof. Wirth. Tresha Formosa presented research on the development of a clinical pharmacy service within a long-term care facility, supervised by Prof. Anthony Serracino-Inglott and Dr Louise Grech.

Dissertation findings from PharmD graduate Ruth Agius and Master of Pharmacy graduand Aisha Diyab were also showcased. Dr Agius carried out research on the quality evaluation of clinical pharmacy services in an intensive care unit, supervised by Prof. Azzopardi and Dr Janis Vella Szijj. Ms Diyab presented research exploring the role of community pharmacists in the management of patients with inflammatory bowel disease, under the supervision of Prof. Wirth.
