The Department of Theatre Studies at the University of Malta has the pleasure of hosting a presentation by Dr David Shirley, Director of School of Theatre at Manchester Metropolitan University. Dr Shirley will outline his research interests in performer training and link these to his own practice as a teacher and actor, and to contemporary developments in training.

A professional actor with extensive experience in theatre, film, television and radio, David Shirley trained at the Arts Educational Schools and at RADA. He joined MMU in 1999. Initially the Subject Leader of Drama at MMU Cheshire, he joined the Faculty of Art and Design as Programme Leader for the B.A. (Hons) Acting course in 2004. The founding Chair of the Conference of Drama Schools Research Forum and a former Co-convenor of the 20th/21st Century Performer Training Group at TaPRA (Theatre and Performance Research Association), David is actively engaged in promoting research initiatives across the HE performer training sector. His own research includes published articles/book chapters related to Stanislavsky and Russian Naturalism, British Actor training, the American Method, the work of Samuel Beckett and Postdramatic Theatre.
