The Department of Translation, Terminology and Interpreting Studies, Faculty of Arts, will be presenting the recently published monograph "Dialogue Writing for Dubbing. An Insider’s Perspective" (Palgrave Macmillan, 2019), authored by Dr Giselle Spiteri Miggiani, a member of the department.
The publication has been distributed internationally and is being adopted as a text book in Audiovisual Translation course programmes at other universities.
The book presentation will serve as an occasion to speak briefly about the newly introduced Audiovisual Translation specialisation stream as part of the MA in Translation and Terminology.
The event will be held on Wednesday 18 December 2019 at 17:30, Faculty of Arts Library. It is open to colleagues, students and the general public.
About the monograph:
The book examines the technical, practical and functional demands that accompany the linguistic and cultural transfer and adaptation of audiovisual productions. It attempts to bring together research, teaching and professional practice. The author proposes translation strategies based on first-hand professional experience and offers practical guidelines based on industry demands, norms and standards. The author focuses on translation for dubbing purposes providing a selection of examples drawn from a corpus of 360 TV scripts while tracking the step-by-step translation and rewriting process.
