We’re thrilled to invite you to the presentation of "Night Parade of 100 Demons," an innovative and free music game designed by Dr Costantino Oliva, Lecturer at the Institute of Digital Games, University of Malta, and a practicing musician.
For this release event, Dr Oliva will team up with experimental musician Timothy Garrett (Double Standard, Geistmachine, Krishna) for a live, fully improvised performance. Watch as they blend the interactive elements of the game with live instruments, pushing the boundaries of extemporaneous musicality.
Discover a new world of musical improvisation with this research-oriented mobile game, featuring the mystical and popular Japanese yokai creatures. "Night Parade of 100 Demons" consists of four engaging minigames, each designed to inspire and challenge your creative musical instincts.
In "Night Parade of 100 Demons", you control four yokai, mischievous creatures of Japanese folklore. Each yokai is the protagonist of a musical, playful vignette. The cheeky tanuki are drumming away in the forest: rub their bellies, and try to control them! Kappa are peacefully swimming in a pond, ready to unleash a cacophony of sound at your touch. Talk to the mysterious yamabiko: will it talk back to you? Beware of the tengu: you control its fan, ready to instigate an avalanche of music! "Night Parade of 100 Demons," is a creative musical interpretation of faithfully reproduced yokai myths, and a joyful parade of raucous improvisation. Play music, and be loud like a yokai!
"Night Parade of a 100 Demons," is the work of game scholar Dr Costantino Oliva, author of the critically acclaimed OTOGARDEN and Lecturer at the Institute of Digital Games, University of Malta.
His research focuses on musical participation in digital games. "Night Parade of a 100 Demons," is based on research conducted at the University of Malta and Ritsumeikan University. In July 2024, the game was presented during the ArtBit Exhibition in Kyoto, a side event of the renowned BitSummit festival.
