UM researchers have laid out a targeted Action Plan to better implement Responsible Research & Innovation (RRI, connecting academia with society) practices at the University of Malta.
‘Embedding RRI in a Higher Education Institution: Lessons learned from Malta’ is the result of a qualitative study assessing the current attitude and perceptions towards RRI, an approach that anticipates and takes stock of potential implications and societal expectations to embed a culture of RRI best practice.
Whilst the majority of survey respondents are in favour of this approach, the authors also emphasise the barriers affecting individuals’ capacity to practice it, including lack of resources and time, as well as a lack of recognition of public engagement efforts.
“This internal study paved the way for a conversation with academics, staff and students on RRI, and to build connections, recognising the potential for collaboration”, said Ms Quacinella, one of the three members of the Centre for Entrepreneurship & Business Incubation involved in the study.
The paper has been published in the International Journal of Higher Education Management.
