“Shine at UM” is the theme of a newly-launched creativity competition aimed at primary school children, encouraging them to let their creativity flow and paint, sculpt or produce a concept that demonstrates what furthering their studies means to them, what they would like to study after they complete post-secondary education or depicting their journey from primary school up until University.
The competition, which is being organised by the University of Malta’s Marketing, Communication and Alumni Office, will see children aged between 8 and 10 coming up with original interpretations of the official tagline (#ShineatUM) currently being used across the University’s social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn).
Entries will be judged on five criteria, namely the clarity of the theme, originality, quality of artistic composition and overall design, material used and how well the tagline will complement the artwork.
The top three entries will eventually be used in a nationwide campaign by the University of Malta. The first, second and third place entries will receive a €200, €150 and €100 book voucher respectively.
All children participating in this competition need parental or guardian consent to submit their entry which needs to be received by the UM by not later than 31 March 2021.
Mr Pierre Cassar, Director of the Marketing, Communications and Alumni Office, said “although primary school students are still some years away from enrolling at UM, we are interested in learning more about how youngsters perceive our institution and what they consider higher education to be all about”.
Participation is free of charge. Students need to fill-in the participation form and attach the consent form duly signed by a parent or guardian. Each submission needs to be accompanied by a tagline (maximum of five words, in English). Further information can be found online.
