Prof. Maria Attard was invited to deliver the Brian Hoyle Lecture at this year’s Annual Meeting of the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) in London. The Brian Hoyle lecture is sponsored by the Transport Geography Research Group, set up within the RGS-IBG in 1972. Prof. Attard joins a list of very prominent transport geographers in the UK and beyond that over the years have had the honour to share their research and experience within the transport geography community. Prof. Attard’s lecture, entitled “Active Mobility Research as Climate Action” highlighted the role of researchers in using their work to further climate action in the community through action research. She showcased some of the work undertaken by her and her team at the Institute for Climate Change and Sustainable Development, and the Geography Department within the Faculty of Arts.
The 2023 Annual Meeting of the Royal Geographical Society and the Institute of British Geographers was held at the Society Headquarters in London at the end of August. At the event Ms Karyn Scerri, a doctoral student under the supervision of Prof. Attard, presented her research work in a session dedicated to citizen participation in transport planning. Ms Scerri is also the postgraduate representative within the Transport Geography Research Group and coordinated the postgraduate sessions within the same conference.
