The University of Malta (UM) has once again solidified its position as the leading institution of higher education in Malta through its successful External Quality Assurance (EQA) audit performed by the Malta Further and Higher Education Authority (MFHEA).
The full report may be accessed online.
This comprehensive audit was conducted during the 2022/2023 academic year to verify whether UM adheres to the national standards set by MFHEA, which are aligned with the European Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG 2015).
The MFHEA EQA audit process was undertaken by an independent and international peer review panel. It included a comprehensive self-assessment report and an extensive week-long onsite review visit of both the Msida and Valletta campuses.
Based on the findings documented in the report, the panel concluded that University of Malta meets all standards.
The independent peer expert panel’s conclusion—that UM meets all standards—stands as a resounding affirmation of UM’s commitment to maintaining high-quality education. Notably, the panel's report highlighted several areas of good practice that contribute to the institution’s academic excellence and quality of education and are worthy of wider recognition.
Alongside these commendations, the panel offered recommendations aimed at further strengthening the already impressive standards, fostering a culture of continuous improvement. With a clear action plan endorsed by its Senate, UM is poised to integrate these recommendations and continue advancing its educational offerings.
This remarkable achievement reflects not only UM’s dedication to upholding both national and European standards but also its vital role as a pillar of Malta's academic and research ecosystem.
This milestone is a powerful testament to UM’s steadfast commitment to delivering world-class higher education. By meeting these rigorous quality benchmarks, UM not only enhances Malta’s reputation but also strengthens its competitive standing alongside leading global institutions.
It reaffirms UM’s status as one of Europe’s oldest and most prestigious universities—a rich legacy that our staff and students are proud to be part of and continue to uphold!
