This year's Science in the City has, once again, provided visitors with a stall dedicated entirely to dentistry and dental health. The stall, set up by the MADS (Malta Association of Dental Students) in collaboration with the Faculty of Dental Surgery, managed to attract a huge number of people of all ages and backgrounds thanks to the friendly disposition of students who aspire to become dentists, dental hygienists and dental technologists.
Visitors had the opportunity to learn all about oral health and dental treatment by means of visuals and models that allowed plenty of interaction, as well as to engage in one-to-one age-appropriate conversations regarding oral hygiene, diet and smoking cessation. The younger visitors also had a chance to meet the tooth fairy. Over 45 people went a step further and took the opportunity to have a free dental check-up while visiting the stand, under the supervision of academics working within the Faculty of Dental Surgery.
The Faculty is proud of its students’ motivation to reach out to the community and contribute towards the prevention of oral diseases by educating the general public in an environment of fun and creative learning.
The success of this event is owed to the MADS and the invaluable support and guidance of members of staff from the Faculty of Dental Surgery.
