We wanted to provide you with some information on the following Zoom features:
Scheduling Zoom meetings from Google Calendar
You can easily schedule Zoom meetings directly from your Google Calendar using the Zoom for GSuite add-on. This ensures that the calendar invites will be issued with the chosen conferencing platform (Zoom or Meet and not both). Academic staff are still advised to continue scheduling Zoom-based lectures in the VLE, however other meetings can be easily scheduled using the Zoom for GSuite add-on.
Sharing slides as a virtual background
During a Zoom meeting, you can share your PowerPoint or Keynote presentation as a virtual background instead of sharing it normally. This allows participants to view your face imposed on the presentation slides – similar to standing in front of your projected slides in the lecture/meeting room.
Zoom Live Transcription
Zoom Automatic Live Transcription lets your participants view closed captions/subtitles and a transcript of what is said during a meeting. The transcript can also be saved at the end of the meeting.
Blurring your background
Zoom has recently introduced the option to blur your background. You may need to update the Zoom App/Client to use this option.
You may wish to refer to other Zoom guides prepared by IT Services.
